Begin with colours they love

Start with an idea such as “colours of the sea” or “a flower garden.” Lay the beads or parts out on the table and try different combinations before putting anything together.

Choose a kit suitable for the children’s ages and follow its instructions. An adult should help check knots and fastenings. Where small parts are unsuitable, larger paper pieces can become a different kind of decoration.

Make time to share each creation

Ask, “Which part do you like best?” Even with the same materials, children will choose different colours and arrangements. Naming the piece or decorating a backing card makes taking it home feel special.

If children would like to give or swap their work, keep it optional. Wanting to keep their own creation is just as welcome.
